An Elderly Lady Who was Looking for a Bus

In a crowded bus station in some city, there was an elderly lady who was looking for a bus for travelling to her sister’s place. There were many buses all-around at the bus station, ready for traveling to different places.

There was a big purse hanging around the right shoulder of the lady and she was dragging a red suitcase by its (the suitcase) wheels while looking for a bus which could make her reach her destination. She was not having a pleasant day dragging the suitcase.

The lady (in her mind, while getting irritated from the hard work she had to do and complaining about other people present at the bus station): Everybody is busy doing his/ her thing. Nobody is even thinking that this lady might be struggling to pull the suitcase, let’s help her. Everybody has got so selfish these days.

While she was saying these things in her mind, there came a young and gentle-looking boy near the lady.

The Boy: Arre, ohh God. You might be finding it very difficult to take that luggage with you.

The Lady: Yes ‘beta’ (son). So nice of you that you asked, otherwise, nobody cares about others these days.

The Boy: Have you come alone, mam?

The Lady: Yes ‘beta’ (son).

The Boy (getting surprised by the situation): How can someone leave you alone dragging this heavy suitcase?

The Lady: But, what to do ‘beta’ (son)? My son is looking after his work in another state and my husband has gone out of town because of a sudden tour regarding his work for a few days. So, I thought that it’s better to visit my sister’s place rather than getting bored at my place.

The Boy: Ohh, so, you are going to your sister’s place. Mam, where does your sister live?

The Lady: Vigyaspur.

The Boy: Ohh Vigyaspur! I have to go to Sahatpur which comes in the way to Vigyaspur

The Boy had a look at the buses present at the bus station near where he was standing, then,

The Boy (to the lady): Mam, come with me, I will help you get on the bus to Vigyaspur and I will also accompany you on the journey. In this way, you will not feel alone and I will help you with your luggage.

The Lady: You are so nice, son. May God bless you with everything and everywhere.

The boy by his left hand held the handle of the suitcase and started dragging the suitcase by its wheels, while doing the same, he was guiding the lady to the bus which was going to depart for Vigyaspur.

After reaching near the entrance of the bus, the boy by holding her hand helped the lady to get into the bus by the stairs. As I had said before, the bus station was crowded (more than usual), the boy was finding it difficult to get on the bus with the suitcase, as people were getting into the bus and getting out of it constantly.

The Boy (to the lady): Mam, it’s very difficult to get this suitcase this way. So, I am going to tell the ‘conductor of the bus’ to keep this luggage in the dickey of the bus. Don’t worry, I will keep the luggage inside the dickey and will bring snacks for us.

The Lady (while offering money for the snacks): Okay. Take some money.

The Boy: It’s my treat for a lady who seems very much like my mother.

The Lady: Okay ‘beta’ (son).

Then, the lady started looking for empty seats for the boy and herself inside the bus. The lady found two seats empty. She sat on one of them and reserved the other one by keeping her purse on it. Her phone in the purse started ringing. When the lady took out the phone from her purse, she saw that his son was calling. She picked up the call.

Son: Hello maa. Have you reached Vigyaspur?

The Lady: No, I just got inside the bus.

Son: What? You just got inside the bus! At this time, it must be very crowded there.

The Lady (reacting to her son’s words, with anger): Ohh. How can you expect me to finish all the works in the house and get ready so early, especially when, I am all alone in the house? But, you don’t need to worry as a boy like you has helped me out here. Everyone is not like you who only cares about his work and not his mother. He is very sweet and kind.

Son (being a little curious about that boy): Which boy? Do I know him?

The Lady: No. You don’t know him, but, he has helped me so much here, especially with the suitcase. He is a very kind-hearted boy.

Son: You are going to ‘Maasi’s’ (aunt’s) house for only 2 days. What was the need of taking the suitcase? Your clothes and other things would have fit into the giant purse you always carry with you.

The Lady: If I wouldn’t have taken the suitcase then how would have I carried the gifts?

Son: What kind of gifts?

The Lady: Jewellery, some watches……….

Son (by interrupting his mother): What was the need of giving that many gifts?

The Lady (in a louder voice, with anger): What was the need of you calling me? Don’t you have any work in your office today?

Son: Okay fine. I am sorry, but it’s very difficult to get leaves this month. Keep all these things aside and let me talk with the boy who is helping you. Give him the phone.

The Lady: I can’t give the phone to him now.

Son: Why? Isn’t he around?

The Lady: No. He had gone to place the suitcase in the dickey of the bus and is also going to bring some snacks for me. He said that it's his treat for me, my other mother.

While these talks between the lady and her son, the driver of the bus started its engine.

The Lady (after hearing the starting sound of the bus’s engine): Hey stop. There is one boy out there. Wait for him.

Conductor of the Bus: Which boy? Everybody has got on the bus……… and mam, have you got the ticket with you?

The Lady: Oh, I am sorry, I forgot to get one. How much for the ticket?

Conductor of the Bus: Rs.55 mam.

The Lady: Okay. Take Rs.110. Two tickets. The other is for the boy who had placed the red colored big suitcase in the dickey of your bus.

Conductor of the Bus: Which boy? There is no red suitcase in the dickey. There is not even a suitcase in the dickey, it’s full of long bags.

Then, the lady quickly started looking around the windows of the bus and the entrance of the bus.

Son (on the phone): Hello-Hello………..

The Lady (to her son on the phone): Hello ‘beta’ (son). I think the sweet and kind boy is not that kind and sweet.

Son (being confused): What? What do you mean by that?

The Lady: The boy who had taken the suitcase to keep in the dickey, has run away with the suitcase.

Son (being shocked): What?
