The Connection between us and The Home Food
Home or Outside Home
Who does not love to have food outside the home? It is no secret how much we crave for the stuff in the food trucks on the roads, kebabs, tikkas, rolls which always call us through their mesmerizing smells.
Whether
it’s somebody’s birthday or someone’s promotion, most of us go outside to
satisfy our cravings and doing the same also feels very great, but it’s not
always a good idea. We can’t eat outside all the time as it’s not that healthy
as we have in our home and it’s not also good for your pocket especially if you
are a person like me who is not into much costly stuff.
Nowadays, most of
the people have become very health conscious and they really care about what
they eat, what nutrients it contains. So,
to keep a check on these measures for having a healthy food lifestyle, we have
to mostly depend on home food as the ingredients, its quantity and its style of
being made is in our hands. Also ‘eating and cooking food at home’ is one of
the food trends according to Godrej Food Trends Report 2018.
One other
and the very important thing which
attracts all of us towards home food is the one and only ‘Maa ke haath
ka khaana’ (Food made by a mother). It
has the unique taste among all over the world for every child. No taste can
replace that.
According
to me, there are three types of home food. They are:
(i)
The
Daily Home Food
(ii)
The Home Food on Special Occasions
(iii)

Food Inspired From The Internet and TV
The Daily Home
Food
From, the daily home
food, I mean the home food we eat at the breakfast going for work, school or college, etc, the food we eat
or used to eat after coming back from school, work, etc, and the food we eat at
the evening and dinner.
So, now, let’s talk
about my daily home food routine I used to have during my school days.
When I used to go to
school at breakfast, my mother used to cook khichdi and give me a plate of it.
I guess it might have given me the energy to play in the games period and
during the Tiffin break in the school oh! The break in the school, how can I
forget about my Tiffin box for the school break. My favorite food which I used to have in my Tiffin was ‘Atta Suji
Maida Pithaa’. It is an Odiya dish made from Atta (flour), Suji and maida. ‘Pithaa’ is the Odiya term for ‘Dosa’. The other
food items my mother used to give me as Tiffin were ‘Suji ka halwa’, ‘Sewaiyaan’, Noodles made with vegetables.
Then, after returning
home after school, there would be rice, daal and some ‘tarkari’ (curry) of some vegetables like ‘bhindi’, ‘patwal’, etc., but the paneer tarkari always makes my day and also used to do
the same.
In snacks, usually, I
used to get biscuits and milk but sometimes, my mother used to make pakodas for all of us and to end the day, there
used to be roti and sabji or tarkari.
Now in my food routine, the
breakfast has got lighter with poha but
the lunch, snacks and dinner are almost
the same.
The Home Food on
Special Occasions
I used to love and now
also love ‘puri’, ‘matar alu’ and ‘chole’ a lot. On Ganesh Puja,
Saraswati Puja or whenever we have puja in our home, we get to have ‘puri’, ‘Alu matar’,
‘chole’ and ‘paneer’. In these occasions, there used to be a competition in a
fun way of who among me, my younger brother and my other cousins, of who can eat
the most number of puris that day, but it used to be hard in the next morning.
On Eid, one of my close friends always invites
all of the friends to his home to have a great treat of home-made chicken
biriyani, kebabs, and sewaiyaan. Great dishes and meals have greater
value when you have them with your near ones and especially if it’s homemade because it has love as an important ingredient
in it.
Home Food Inspired From The Internet and TV
Earlier, there used to be food shows telecast only
on the daily soap channels. Through these shows, there were some people who
used to sit before the TV with a pen and notebook to note down the recipe of
the food item shown on the TV show, so that they can cook that food item for
their family and friends.
This craze of the people who love cooking food
increased when came the cooking reality shows like Masterchef, TopChef, etc.
and lifestyle TV channels in which shows related to food has a major part.
Since the internet thing has got very popular,
now many people are able to learn and prepare beautiful dishes from food
youtube channels and blogs. So, like this, many people can now make their favorite dishes which they would have tasted on restaurants in their home by
learning about them on TV and Internet.
Cooking Food at Home now got Easier
With new
kitchen gadgets and tools coming into play, cooking has got very much easier.
There is vegetable chopper for chopping vegetables in a beautiful pattern and
continuous patterns in a very less time. Now, the microwave ovens can also heat Indian foods. At last but not the
last, there are also tools for making a dough
of atta and making rotis and puris
rounder. So, with the company of these tools and gadgets like these, cooking
has definitely got easier.
Kitchen,
an attractive place
Earlier, the
kitchen was just a place for chopping
& cutting fruits and vegetables and making dishes, but day by day, it’s
becoming an attractive part of the house. The reason is the ways through which
the kitchens are set up and maintained
these days. They are getting beautiful day by day. Having a beautiful kitchen
makes the kitchen surrounding very positive which helps in cooking and working
in the kitchen a lot.
