Do we Know the Right way of Selling an Used Electronic Device?
You don’t think about selling your old device till you do not need some extra cash, whether it is for buying you a new phone or something else, but till this situation comes, you do not care about what happens to your phone, you may care about it if it has some contents which can get you in trouble when it goes to some alien hands.
What are the things
that you face, while selling your old electronic
device?
You dream
of getting some amount of money and doing different things with that money. But, the sad part is that you
never get the amount of money you have thought of initially and your heart
starts to break during the meetings, which brings you down to the floor of your
dreams.
You get to
know about the other defects of the phone which you never knew before while meeting the buyer.
You get to
hear stories about how the type of phone you are presenting, has been offered
to the buyers at a lower price. If you do not agree with the
buyer’s proposed price, then the buyer gives the ideas of what you should do
with your device instead of selling it.
Now, I am
going to share a story about this issue. Like other people, I also had a
thought of selling my old phone to get some extra cash. I had bought that phone
for around Rs.6000. It was three and a half years old that time. After
considering its condition and its time of use, I thought Rs.1000 would be a fair price and anybody would love to give that
much of amount for that phone. One more thing to mention, One year before that
time, the phone was a part of a fight between me and my brother, the small
fights, brothers have at home, you know what I mean. How can I forget
that fight, my brother had thrown the phone to me which had injured my thumb.
The fight was very painful to me and obviously for the phone also because
it(fight) affected its(phone) display screen a little bit.
Now, let us
move back to our main story about selling the phone. So, I had made a thought
of selling that phone. I phoned my friend, told him about the phone. He said,
“o.k. Come to my house and we will talk about it.” then I said, ”o.k. Reaching
there soon.”
I reached
his house. Then, he showed me some formality and then I showed him some. He
said, ”What would you like to eat or drink?” I said, “No no, I had my food at
my house and there is no need of any drinks.”
He said, “Please have one drink”. I said, ”I would take one glass of
cold-drink”. So, I was talking about this formality. I told him about the
features of the phone. I informed him about the little issue, the phone had
with its display screen. Then, he took the phone from me and started checking
it out. He was checking the phone like a pro like he always gets phone buying
offers or he has made many phones like this. Then, he said, “This thing is
slower than what I had expected for. The camera quality is not what it should
be. That app cannot run on this phone. It should cost Rs.700 for me now.”
I said,
“what are you talking bro? I had it for Rs.6300 and for its display and
condition, I went for Rs.1000 only but you want it for Rs.700. How is that even
possible?”
He said,
“Sorry bro, but no one is going to buy that for more than Rs.700.”
After
hearing this, I was shattered from inside. What I had thought and what
happened. Since, this friend of mine is very popular for his honesty in our
college and had helped me in many situations before. So, I made a deal with him
and my phone was sold for Rs.700 only. It was not like what I had thought.
The story
is not over yet. One week later, I saw a phone like my older one, in the hand
of my college mate Rahul. I asked him about the phone. He said that he bought
the phone from Sharman for Rs.2000. Do you know who Sharman was? Sharman was
the name of the guy to whom I had sold my phone. Then I checked the phone and found the mark
which was because of the fight between me and my brother. I became sure that he
has updated its software and worked on its display and sold it to Rahul.
I did not
make enough money from this incident but learned my lessons. First, you should always
ask for more money than the price you think when you are selling your phone.
Do not
trust anyone blindly, even if he is the reborn Raja Harish Chandra. Always go
for more than one buyer. Do your homework before going for selling your phone
and be less foolish.
